Farmer-led research is shaping the future of agriculture – and the British On-Farm Innovation Network (BOFIN) is looking for an experienced and motivated project manager to help deliver its growing portfolio of collaborative research projects.

BOFIN brings together farmers, researchers, and industry partners to design and deliver practical, on-farm innovation.

From field-scale trials to knowledge exchange initiatives, BOFIN’s work supports farming systems that are more productive, resilient, and sustainable – with real-world impact at their core.

As BOFIN continues to grow, this is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, collaborative team and play a central role in delivering projects that directly benefit farmers and the wider agricultural sector.

The role

Working closely with the head of projects, you will lead the execution and coordination of BOFIN projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and to a high standard.

You’ll take ownership of project planning, stakeholder coordination, reporting, and delivery, acting as a key link between farmers, researchers, partners, and internal teams. This role requires someone who is highly organised, proactive, and confident managing multiple moving parts, while maintaining strong relationships across a diverse network.

You’ll have the autonomy to manage projects independently, alongside the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of BOFIN’s project delivery processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate BOFIN projects, ensuring timelines, milestones, and deliverables are met
  • Manage project plans, documentation, reporting, risks, and communications
  • Coordinate trialists, partners, and stakeholders, supporting protocol delivery and data collection
  • Act as a key point of contact, ensuring effective communication across project teams
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, researchers, funders, and industry partners
  • Represent BOFIN at events and project activities where required
  • Support continuous improvement of project management processes and contribute to future project development

About you

  • Experienced in managing or coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Highly organised, with strong planning and prioritisation skills
  • A confident communicator, able to work effectively with a wide range of partners
  • Comfortable managing risks, solving problems, and making decisions
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experienced in tracking progress, maintaining records, and preparing reports
  • Confident using project management and collaboration tools

Desirable:

  • Experience in agriculture, research, innovation, or farmer-led projects
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, PRINCE2)
  • Experience with grant-funded or collaborative projects
  • Understanding of on-farm trials or agricultural research
  • Experience supporting budgets, contracts, or reporting requirements

What BOFIN offers

This is a unique opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation at the heart of UK agricultural innovation. You’ll be part of a supportive, ambitious team working on projects that deliver meaningful, practical outcomes for farmers.
