This is the Guild social event of the year and the perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues who you may not have seen in a while. Even better, to keep the conversations flowing everybody who attends the lunch after-party at the Happenstance bar gets their first drink free.
2 – Entertaining speakers
We are delighted that our new President Tom Heap will be the guest speaker at this year’s lunch. Tom has a wealth of experience in agricultural journalism and broadcasting. If you’ve been in the Guild for a while you’ll love his anecdotes, if you’ve just joined, he’ll have some great insights on how to build a successful career.
3 – Celebrating success
The Harvest Lunch is when the winners of this year’s awards for writing, photography and podcasting are revealed. Picking up an award is always better when your peers are there to recognise your achievements, so do come along and support your fellow content creators. They may even inspire you to win your own award next year.
4 – Fantastic food
Every journalist loves a decent lunch and this year’s mouth-watering menu, celebrating the best of British food, looks to be one of the best yet. For starters, there’s lemon and ginger cured gravlax of salmon, while for the mains you’ll be enjoying black garlic and rosemary crusted rump of lamb with lots of trimmings. And there’s apple tart for pudding.
5 – Supporting the Guild
The lunch, of course, is not just a lunch. It all kicks off with our annual harvest festival at St Bride’s Church where we give thanks for another farming year and raise money for the Guild’s benevolent fund supporting our colleagues in times for need. It’s also a great opportunity to acknowledge our generous sponsors who help events like this to happen and enable the Guild to better support its members.
