The Guild is delighted to welcome these new members to our community of rural communicators:
Alex Cotterell started his career as a freelance journalist in June 2025 with contributions to Farm Machinery Journal and Heritage Tractor among others, and developed his journalism and writing skills by attending the Guild’s John Deere-supported new entrants’ training course earlier this year.
“I relish being a member of the Guild to continue developing as a journalist, expand my professional network and learn from experienced members of the agricultural media.
“I hope that Guild membership will help me build my profile within the industry and support my long-term goal of securing a permanent editorial role with a national agricultural publication.”
Loz James has joined the Guild as a freelance with more than 25 years’ experience as a professional writer and journalist.
“I’ve previously worked as a BBC local radio reporter, including covering rural and agricultural stories, and I’m now developing my career in agricultural journalism and communications, bringing together my professional writing and journalism background with my practical experience as manager of a 400-acre sheep farm in Perthshire.
“I recently completed SRUC’s post-graduate micro-credential in Agricultural Communications and Journalism and wanted to join the Guild to become part of the agricultural media community, build relationships with fellow journalists, editors and communicators, and continue developing my knowledge and experience within the industry.”
Daniel Rad has joined the Guild as a writer, editor and journalist for more than a decade who has published in the United Kingdom and abroad “fusing foreign, economy and agriculture into one package” as he puts it.
“I believe joining the Guild will help me build my experience and get to know more about the British agricultural sector,” Daniel says.
Olivia Turley has become a Friend of the Guild, an associate membership category for people who do not qualify for full membership but want to form connections with Guild members.
In Olivia’s case, she has the ambition to add to her knowledge and experience as a self-employed livestock vet by branching into journalism and media relations specialising in veterinary communication and potentially become a voice for livestock farmers.
