Farm North-East editor Eddie Gillanders has been awarded the 2022 Stuart Seaton award.

Established in memory of Stuart Seaton, the founding editor of Farmers Guardian, and recognises regional coverage of farming and rural affairs.

Among the entries received, judges said the entry from Farm North-East best represented the spirit of the award in recognising in the function of regional newspapers’ coverage of farming and rural affairs.

Editor Eddie Gillanders’ writing displayed clear distillation of facts and also clear insight into the topics and affairs covered in the pages submitted for the award, they said.

His editorial page in the entry illustrates not only keen perception of the farming needs and affairs of the region that the publication covers – but also that he is passionate about them, they added.

The judges, which included Stuart Seaton’s daughter Val Chapman, a magazine editor herself, said the magazine was serving its region in a comprehensive, highly professional and informative manner.
