Guild members have until 20 September to enter the Red Tractor Assurance Public Engagement Award for 2018 – and a chance to win £1000.

The award celebrates articles and broadcasts featuring farmers who go above and beyond the call of duty to tell the story of UK food production.

Judges are looking for stories that highlight farmers who realise how important it is for consumers to understand where their food comes from and take the opportunity to get the message across.

Examples include articles about farmers who have opened their farms to the public, created a direct sales channel, or used technology to tell their traceability story.

But ultimately any article or broadcast can be entered so long as it is about producers who have made special efforts to communicate farming’s great stories to consumers.

Previous winners include Tom Allen-Stevens and Caroline Stocks.

Tips on putting together a top entry are available here.

To enter, send a high resolution PDF of an article published in print, a link to an article published online or the script of a broadcast to Ben Pike.

The entry should include details of where and when the piece was published or broadcast.

Red Tractor was established in 2000 and has grown to become the UK’s biggest farm and food standards scheme, covering animal welfare, food safety, traceability and environmental protection.

It is a small, not for profit company, run by the food industry to promote clearer labelling and ensure food originates from a trustworthy source.
