Join us for the BGAJ mobile video training day
Join the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists for a full day of professional development, practical learning and the Guild AGM at the FarmED centre in Oxfordshire.
Taking place on Thursday 26 March in the Chipping Norton area, the event brings together skills training, Guild business and an on-farm visit at one of the UK’s most progressive centres for farming and food system learning.
Starting at 9.30am, the morning will focus on a mobile video workshop with Marc Settle, who works for the BBC Academy, the training arm of the BBC. Marc specialises in helping BBC staff get the best possible results from smartphones, particularly iPhones, for TV, radio and online journalism.
In this practical session, Marc will cover the best settings, techniques, apps and basic kit to help you improve video quality when recording on a smartphone. The emphasis will be on producing credible, well-crafted video efficiently in real-world reporting conditions, with a focus on tips for creating effective videos for social media.
While the session will be based on iPhone devices, many of the principles and concepts discussed will also apply to Android smartphones.
Training will be followed by lunch and the Guild AGM, where members will vote on new council members and a new Guild chair. This is an important opportunity for members to engage directly with the future direction of the Guild.
The afternoon will conclude with a guided tour of the FarmED site. FarmED is a farmer-led, not-for-profit centre focused on improving soil health, biodiversity and farm resilience through agroecological approaches. Based on a working farm, it acts as a demonstration and education hub, bringing together farmers, researchers, policymakers and communicators to explore how farming systems can deliver food production alongside environmental and social outcomes.
The full day, including training, lunch, AGM and farm walk, costs £50 for member and £57.50 for non-members. Places are limited and early booking is recommended.
